Here are the most common questions about working with Basaltic Farms as your trusted garlic supplier.
Bulk Ordering & Pricing
What bulk discounts are available for large orders?
Our website automatically applies quantity discounts starting at 5 pounds. For orders between 1000-2000 pounds, we offer wholesale pricing with additional savings. Orders over 2000 pounds qualify for custom pricing – call contact@basalticfarms.com to discuss volume discounts tailored to your specific needs and delivery schedule.
Do you offer seasonal contracts for restaurants and distributors?
Yes! We work with restaurants and distributors to establish seasonal supply contracts ensuring consistent availability and pricing while supplies last. Contract customers receive priority allocation during harvest season and guaranteed delivery schedules. Contact us to discuss your annual garlic needs and seasonal pricing arrangements.
What's the minimum order quantity for wholesale pricing?
Wholesale pricing begins at 1000 pounds for most varieties. However, we understand different businesses have varying needs. Email us at contact@basalticfarms.com to discuss your specific requirements – we often work with smaller operations to find mutually beneficial arrangements, especially for restaurant accounts with consistent monthly orders.
About the Farm & Quality Standards
What certifications does Basaltic Farms maintain for quality assurance?
We maintain triple certification: CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers), USDA Organic, and Real Organic Project verification. This means three annual on-site inspections ensuring zero synthetic inputs, complete transparency, and soil-based growing practices. Our volcanic soil is comprised of weathered basalt that enhance both plant health and garlic quality.
How does your volcanic soil affect garlic quality and flavor?
A 2024 study co-authored by Newcastle University found that crops grown in basalt-amended soil had significantly higher tissue calcium and grain potassium than crops grown in untreated fields. Basalt slowly releases calcium, magnesium, potassium, and trace minerals that plants need to thrive. We believe this leads to healthier garlic plants that perform better and taste better than garlic grown in other types of soil alone. With proper amendments you can reap the benefits of basalt soil in your garden too.
Read the Newcastle University research on basalt and crop nutrition.
Can customers visit the farm to see your growing operations?
Absolutely! We welcome farm visits by appointment, especially during spring growing season (March-June) and harvest time (July-August). Reach out to use using the contact form or email contact@basalticfarms.com to schedule your tour. We love sharing our knowledge of garlic farming and regenerative agriculture.
Ordering Process & Logistics
How far in advance should customers place orders?
For seed garlic, we recommend ordering by May as popular varieties often sell out by June. Fresh eating garlic orders can be placed year-round, but peak availability runs August through February after proper curing. Large bulk orders and seasonal contracts should be arranged 2-3 months in advance for guaranteed availability. If you are unsure if a variety is still available check our product pages for current availability.
What shipping options are available for bulk orders?
We offer multiple shipping methods including ground freight for large orders, expedited shipping for time-sensitive deliveries, and coordinated delivery schedules for regular accounts. All garlic is carefully packed to prevent damage during transit. Shipping costs are calculated based on weight, destination, and delivery timeline requirements.
Do you accommodate special packaging requirements for commercial buyers?
Yes, we can accommodate various packaging needs including custom labeling for private label accounts, specific box sizes for restaurant operations, and breathable packaging for extended storage. We work with each customer to determine optimal packaging solutions that maintain quality while meeting your operational requirements.
Customer Support & General Questions
Who handles customer service and technical support?

What guarantee do you offer on garlic quality and performance?
We guarantee satisfaction on all garlic shipments. If you’re not satisfied with quality, storage life, or performance within 30 days of delivery, contact us for replacement or refund. For seed garlic, we guarantee viability when stored and planted properly.
How can customers stay updated on harvest schedules and variety availability?
Contact us directly to be added to our harvest notification list. We send updates on harvest timing, curing progress, and shipping schedules throughout the season. For regular customers, we provide advance notice of variety availability and can reserve specific quantities based on your historical orders and projected needs.
